The Jean Monnet ethic etapes Centre is located in Romorantin,
Sologne-Loire Valley… a region to discover.
Sologne was named as an administrative region by decree in 1790. It overlaps portions of three more modern administrative areas (“départements”) : Cher, Loir
et Cher and Loiret. It’s made up of various types of landscapes covering 1800 square miles (500,000 hectares) where flora and fauna thrive. “An island of clay
in an ocean of limestone”, Sologne’s soil is a mixture of clay and sand. Due to the impermeability of its soil many marshes existed and had to be reclaimed. As
early as the 10th century the people settling the area started planting trees, building roads and digging canals.

Besides hunting, which is carried out more often on private estates, freshwater fishermen are attracted to the region by pike, carp, gudgeon and roach.
Finally the region is extremely popular with nature lovers looking for natural beauty and clean air.
